We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind. 'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance, well they're…no friends of mine. I say, we can go where we want to – a place where they will never find. And we can act like we come from out of this world – leave the real one far behind.

And we can dance.

And so can Blue Lapis Light. ‘Cept they won’t be gracing the stage of the State Theatre, the cement floor of a converted Eastside warehouse, or even the boards of your local dance hall. No, these high-flying daredevils will be doing their thing 25ft above your head, swinging from that ugly-ass concrete frame on the west side of downtown. You know – the Intell Shell. Safe? More or less. Dance? Damn straight. That kind of chutzpah, coupled with a reputation for creating jaw-dropping site-specific work in Austin for the past 15 years, is a one way ticket to our Austinist Pick of the Week. You can check it out Thursdays thru Sundays at 8pm at 400 West San Antonio. More info at the Blue Lapis website, tickets via Austix.

The rest of this week’s newbies after the jump.

MANSON/FAMILY VALUES
If there hadn’t been such strong competition, this totally would’ve been our pick of the week. Presented by the LIDA Project – an experimental theatre and multi-media company based out of Denver – this show is about a family of Charles Manson followers. Stopping at the VORTEX as part of an international tour that included the Camden People’s Theatre in London, we get the distinct impression that this show will blow your mind. Or, at least creep you out a little. Info on LIDA at their website, tickets for the show at the VORTEX internet dominion.

KITTY KITTY BANG BANG: WHIM WHAM WEDNESDAY
Yes, dear Austin, its Vaudeville style Burlesque from a group of fine young ladies with very little clothing. Titillating, musical, and suggestive of a story line (amongst other things), this will be the most fun you’ve had on a Wednesday night in recent memory. Check it out at 8pm at Esther’s Pool. (Don’t tell anyone we said this, but you could just check out the behind the scenes action from 6th street – through that great big window behind the Esther’s stage…shhh.) Tickets, info, and some photos that’ll warm up your workday at Bang Bang online.

What? That’s it? Yes. There’s not a lot opening this week, but there’s still plenty running from weeks gone by. Check it out.

Gimme, keep yer eyes peeled. We might just have some tix coming up this week.

  • em, you are awesome for helping to spread the word. "I Love My Dead Gay Son: The Musical!" is indeed one of the most anticipated musical events of the summer -- if not the century -- however, it opens June 15th, and will be in next week's TWIT.

I'm pumped to hear people are excited about the show!!!
