2% Jazz, 98% Funky Stuff
Shake everything you got this weekend at Antone's, as the incomparable master of the funky horn blows into Austin. This has become one of the best shows of the year in Austin, as sax legend Maceo Parker does his best to burn the place to the ground.
Maceo came to notoriety as the horn centerpiece (along with Fred Wesley) of James Brown's band The JB's, quite possibly the tightest unit in the history of the funky blues. After moving on from the Godfather of Soul, Maceo took up with the freakiest crew of intergalactic brothers on the planet when he was asked to join George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic. Maceo had to cancel his previously scheduled show at Antone's last year, as he was out on tour with Prince.
Young Austin blues cat Gary Clark, Jr. opens, so expect a little sit-in from the young Clark once Maceo takes the stage.
Sadly, and tellingly, this was the last show that Clifford Antone booked at his club.
