Rouge Appeal: Lip Service that's White Hot.

12Your most important feature may not be your lips, but this summer you can at least act like they are. Skin with even the smallest hint of sun can really radiate, which can often create the illusion of being pale-lipped. Don't let your pout lose its radiance, but don't wear so much lipstick that you look like a hussie, either. Just try to find the balance between the age-old conflict of the extremes: Red vs. Sheen.

Enter into the ring: The Red. Not "Pink" or "Coral," Red looks best on olive toned and darker skinned ladies with big browns, hazels, and greens. Pair red with a Reverse Lip Liner so that it doesn't feather or appear uneven. Our favorite reverse liner by Du Wop is available at Sephora. Winning reds are as follows:
M.A.C. Ruby Woo: It's a matte red that has blue-ish tints to make it really pop.
SmashboxPhoto Finish in Lavish: A more sheer lipstick that appears cherry sleek.

In the opposite corner: The Sheen. Not "Glitter" or "Balm," The Sheen looks best on the more fair of them all. Reverse liner works well with The Sheen as well, as long as it has a hint of color. Winning Sheens include:
M.A.C Clear Lip Glass: It's a high sheen gloss that creates a "glassy" look, without being too heavy on the lips.
Urban Decay's XXX Shine Gloss: Tingles as it gleams. Pouting the lips with its peppermint oil, this gloss is not for the feeble. Favorite XXX gloss tints include Ozone, the clearest freshest gloss, and the Carney, which boasts a hint of pink.

Don't forget the world's most important rule when showing off red lips...skip heavy eye makeup. Want to show off those silky sheen lips? Pair them with clean liquid lines and separated lashes. Get out there and find your favortite Red or Sheen, and see which one will win you over.

All lip products mentioned above are $14-$20.
