We're Breaking Up with You: This Week's New Movie Releases!

filmbanner.jpg

A few tasty offerings today, including: Edward Norton in a cowboy hat! Vince Vaughn and Jen Aniston - omg, will they get back together in the end?? And hey, guess what - planet Earth is totally f*cked!

*An Inconvenient Truth
Last week we were a little confused about this film's release date, but we've confirmed that it does in fact open today. Not a moment too soon - the oceans are rising! Former presidential candidate Al Gore to the rescue!

*The Break-Up
You gotta give credit: the media blitz surrounding the "Are they or aren't they?" relationship between Vince and Jen has secured this movie's place in the far, far corners of our waking consciences for a good six months now. It's the only explanation for our burning desire to see it. We've been brainwashed. And we don't care.

*Clean
Starring Maggie Cheung, this film is a compelling story about a woman trying to get clean from drugs and a past full of regrets. Nick Nolte, who also stars, can probably relate.

District B13
Yeah, right, like a French person would ever learn martial arts. Everyone knows that all they do is sit around, eat croissants, smoke expensive cigarettes, and act snooty while not showering and letting their body hair rage out of control. It's like, common knowledge.

*Down in the Valley
Is it wrong that we find Edward Norton strangely attractive as a cowboy who enters a relationship with a teenage girl? How can it be wrong, when it feels so right?

Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont
Old lady befriends young man. They learn stuff from each other. It's probably more boring than it sounds.

*The Puffy Chair (Austinist review and our interview with the directors)
Ah, a classic road-trip-as-learning-experience story, where the journey becomes more important than the end goal. Don't get us wrong, though - this is one to watch.

*Austinist recommends. We also recommend these fine cinematic experiences: Friends with Money, Inside Man, Thank You for Smoking

District B13 kicks ass. so there.

Second. B13 deserved a little better review from our favorite local movie reviewer, no?

Aw, I was just makin' a little joke, people. You know, playing off the silly American aversion to all things French. I'm not doubting that B13 kicks ass. But I didn't see it, which is why we welcome your comments and suggestions if you did.

So, these aren't so much "reviews" as they are "random blurbs I come up with after seeing previews and/or reading other people's reviews of these movies on the internet." The disclaimer should read: Take with grain of salt and possibly entire margarita.

Thanks for reading!
