Hot Love Disaster to Leave Boys and Girls in Comas

hl-cover.jpgThis Saturday at the Parish, San Antonio's Kinks-y psych-pop outfit Buttercup plays to support the release of their new CD, Hot Love. Opening for them are Austin wunderkinds Tacks, the Boy Disaster. If you haven't seen either of these bands, you owe it to yourself. We've been listening to the new Buttercup CD all week and it keeps getting better with each loving embrace (stay tuned for a full review). We also hear great things about the Smiths-influenced Girl in a Coma, who'll be playing first.

Though their sophomore effort lets the untamed beast of the band’s rock pedigree show through, Buttercup hasn’t ditched their signature pet sounds...and we love them for that. The glocks and ukes promise to be in full effect on Saturday (that’s glockenspiels, folks), accompanied by the glorious sound of four grown men oohing and aahing in harmony over quirky-yet-sophisticated pop arrangements. We only wish they'd brought along the San Antonio Symphony players who backed them up on the album.

Tune in at noon today to hear Buttercup play a live set on KUT 90.5 radio. Given Aielli’s swooning over Mr. Reyes (guitar, vox) during their first encounter, we expect their second date to unleash further passion.
