Free Edutainment in the Park this Sunday

After all of the hogs have cranked their way out of town on Sunday, you will finally be able to come out of your house and enjoy the town.
We suggest you re-acclimate yourself with the outdoors by enjoying live music and a movie in Republic Square Park. For Free.
Sunday night will be the first event on the MySpace Presents the Bside Roadshow. The tour will travel the country bringing independent film and music to the masses. So be the first kids on the block to experience the fun and excitement so you can tell all your friends around the country (Ann Arbor, Minneapolis, Madison, Philadelphia, Boulder, Portland and Boston) what they can expect in the weeks and months to come. Hell, given the cities on the tour, maybe we'll quit our day job and just go on tour.
The evening kicks off with live performances by Black Before Red, Go Nova, Guy Forsyth and "other Austin legends." (No word yet on whether the Ctez All-Stars will be performing, as most of the band are said to still be in rehab.) After the music, there will be a screening of Andrew Shapter's documentary Before the Music Dies. The movie documents the struggles of musicians to get their art to the masses while constantly battling music business executives who have one thought in mind - the bottom line. It played to packed houses during SXSW, and while the movie is quite entertaining, if you are between the ages of 20-40 or have even a modicum of knowledge about the music industry, we doubt you will learn anything new from the film. However, there are quite a few Texas musicians featured, including a great story about Doyle Bramhall II and his battle with industry execs and his own creative process. And it's always fun to hear Branford Marsalis talk about music. Plus, you'll get to see quite a bit of Erykah Badu. Grrrr...
