Food Bites: The New York Times Loves Texas Eats; Texas Wine Tasting @ Four Seasons

The New York Times suddenly has a hankering for Texas food. Over the past ten days, three separate articles have praised the virtues of everything from Salt Lick BBQ sauce to Whataburger. You foodies may not consider these items haute cuisine, but it's exotic enough to get attention, we suppose. Other objects of the Times' devotion include Blue Bell Ice Cream and Shiner Bock. We take all of these items for granted, so it's nice to know that others around the country are a little jealous of our part of the world! The links are below:

Whataburger Love (note: this article is in the archives, so only NYT subscribers can access it)
We have to wonder what the New Yorkers will discover next...Uchi? Aquarelle? Judging by the above list, the actual answer is probably Taco Shack, Big Red, or (our choice) New Braunfels Smokehouse Jerky!
Finally, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention an enticing food event later this month at The Four Seasons. "Hot Time In The City" features pairings of Texas wines and Texas eateries, and participating restaurants include Cafe Josie, Cafe Caprice, Cafe at the Four Seasons, and Vin Bistro. Wines will come from 13 different Texas vineyards such as Stone House, Llano Estacado, and Fall Creek. Tickets are $40 for Texas Wine and Food Foundation members and $50 for the rest of us plebes. You can purchase them on 327-7555 or simply click here. Enjoy!
