Crepes at Flip Happy Better Than Those In France?

crepes2.jpg

We recently discovered a unique crepe stand in South Austin that gives us hope that not all French food here has to be expensive: Flip Happy Crepes is run out of a little Airstream trailer off of South Lamar in the parking lot between Floribunda and Flashback. All their savory crepes are around $5.50 or less, and their sweet crepes are $3.75 or less.

fliphappy.gifWe've been craving crepes as good as those we've enjoyed in France, and Flip Happy delivers on this front. We tried a savory crepe of the traditional ham and gruyere cheese with carmelized onions and spinach, which was very delectable. Then, another day we came back for dessert and got one that was filled with Nutella and bananas with a dollop of whipped cream on top.

When we mentioned to a French friend that these crepes were as good as the ones we'd had in France, he responded that they were even better. We don't want to argue with the French on any gastronomic matters, and we can't knock ingredients "made from scratch with love," so we'll just have to add this to our list of affordable favs in South Austin and let our readers decide that for themselves.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check this place out. You say it is between Floribunda and Flashback. But what street is that near?

Also, you say it opens June 2, but from the picture it looks like they are already open.

I just saw that little trailer yesterday-looking forward to trying them!

These are by far the best crepes I have ever had.
My new Saturday ritual.
They've been open almost 6 weeks now, located in the Floribunda parking lot near Oltorf and Lamar.
mmmmm.

the trailer's actually in floribunda's parking lot, just north of oltorf on lamar

i think they've been open on and off for the past couple of weeks, but i've yet to try 'em out ... can't wait!

Yep, they have been open for over a month, but starting tomorrow they will be open in the evening so we can enjoy the savoriness while avoiding the heat. Deelish!

looking forward to hitting them for lunch soo. thanks for the tip.
