Summer Nights = Baseball With The Express

As you start to plan what you're doing with these hot summer evenings, don't forget that Austin has a great "nearly pro" sports outing available almost nightly: Triple-A baseball. The Round Rock Express are enjoying another successful season at the Dell Diamond up in the wilds of Round Rock, and it's easy to get tickets and enjoy a game. The team has proven so popular over the last few years that they actually moved up from AA to AAA status (the highest minor league team level), meaning that you'll regularly see potential major leaguers play for the Express.
The team currently sits at 27-17 and is only 1 1/2 games back of the Isotopes for the division lead. While tonight's game versus Las Vegas is the final one for a few days, the team returns next week for an eight-game homestand against Memphis and Omaha. The Dell Diamond (yes, Dell is totally The Don of Round Rock) also does a fireworks show after Friday night games, so your niece/nephew/parents might just love you forever for taking them to a game.
The Express hosted 700,000 fans in 2005, so it's probably wise to buy tickets a few nights in advance if you want great seats. Tickets are available here, and range from $6-12. Austinist realizes that this post sounds like some kind of pimpin' ad, but hey! It's summer, it's a cheap date, and there are hot dogs and beer...and Texadelphia! We can't imagine why you wouldn't want to do this at least once this summer. More info on the Express from the Statesman and the team's official site.
