Austinist Giveaway: The Octopus Project at Emo's, This Saturday

octopus_project_balloons.jpgHaving played an outrageously amazing show at Coachella after winning a MySpace contest they didn't even know about, Austin's The Octopus Project are coming back to their hometown this Saturday to headline at Emo's outside, with Loxsly, Gil Mantera's Party Dream and Featherweight Burden.

The trio's been busy these past few months: they played a bunch of well-received shows back at SXSW (prompting Rolling Stone's David Fricke to name them one of his standout bands of the festival), brought on a new guitarist, Brandon Durham, from Peek-a-Boo Records labelmates Palaxy Tracks, and are currently on an extensive tour across the country to support One Ten Hundred Thousand Million, their latest record that came out last year.

They're one of the most exciting bands around to see live, though it's hard to decide whether this is because of the frenetic energy they channel onstage or the unwavering enthusiasm of the crowd witnessing the spectacle and dancing in sync. Peek-A-Boo describes them as having "created a unique sound perhaps best described as 'ambidextrous equipment failure junk-tronica,' merging the experimentation of progressive post-rock, the blips and bleeps of electronica and the raw, human ROCK of rock."

Wanna see 'em for free? We're giving away three separate prize packages -- winners will receive a copy of One Ten Hundred Thousand Million as well as a pair of spots on the guestlist for this weekend's show. Fill out the form below!

UPDATE: Congrats, Jarrod D., Stephen L., and Emily H.!

  • As if that bill weren't enough, the other room that night features Pong, the White Ghost Shivers, the Invincible Czars, and Troublemen.

    Now that's entertainment value!

    Be there, or be four-sided.
