"The People" Have Spoken

The Austin Police Department has not been having the best year (or few). They have been under increased public scrutiny for not being effective at self-policing and for their alleged use of excessive force, most recently against Ramon Hernandez. The officer, caught on videotape beating the handcuffed suspect, was acquitted and suspended for 70 days. Well, the APD's public relations took another turn for the worse over the weekend. Maybe you have seen the new billboards around town warning people to buckle up or face $200 fines? Apparently a person none-too-pleased with the APD took the very public forum to voice their opinion of the APD. The billboard is on North Loop, above Ararat.

No such thing as bad publicity? We beg to differ. We, of course, do not condone any vandalizing of public property. (Slight educational aside: Did you know the word 'vandalize' originated from the behavior of the Vandals, a Germanic tribe that plundered the (also-stolen) booty of Rome during the 5th century? ok.)

In case you can't decipher it, the sign has been altered to read, "Power to the People, Not the Pigs."

  • I drive blessed sign every day. Austin cops get paid too much. Even if all the other shit people say about them is false (including the accusations of misconduct) they truly are pigs.

People working in law enforcement shouldn't be allowed to unionize.
