SXSWclick Wants Your Shorts!
![]()
Just like Barbie had her hip, perky teen sibling Skipper, South By Southwest has its younger counterpart, SXSWclick.
Now in its third year, the fledgling "mobile media festival" is a chance for amateur filmmakers around the world to show off their short-form storytelling skillz by competing in any of five categories:
- Old-School Shorts › Tried'n true narrative shorts, shot on anything you like.
- Really Real Shorts › Documentary shorts, real stuff.
- Animate-it › Flash and traditional animation.
- Sound Checks › A.K.A. music videos.
- What the F*#!? › What the "film." Experimental and Machinima. None-of-the-above. The "Not sure we 'get it' -- but it's pretty cool" category.
They've just begun accepting submissions today, and will continue to do so until June 12th, 2006. That means that you have just under a month to come up with something hilarious, unique, and earth-shatteringly brilliant. Or at least under ten minutes long. And you've gotta cough up ten bucks to enter.
Even films that have screened elsewhere can enter the competition, including previous SXSW Film Festivals, but you'll have to re-submit a VHS or DVD to be considered. Films will be screened by the SXSW selection committee, and narrowed down to three finalists in each category for further judging by the SXSWclick Jurors. All fifteen finalists will also have their works made available online (hence, "click"), to be evaluated by us web-surfing office drones.
