Daniel Johnston at Waterloo

If you are not one of the fortunate few attending the invite-only performance of Daniel Johnston tonight at the Alamo South, fret not. The living legend, whose story has been told in the wonderful The Devil & Daniel Johnston, will be doing an in-store performance at Waterloo Records today at 5pm. This is a special treat, as Johnston rarely plays in Austin, and has most recently been touring only in Europe. We imagine the lines/crowds to see Johnston will be amazing, so we suggest getting there a little early. Or a lot.

he only played two songs, lasting about six minutes, at his performance following the film at alamo south last night. he said he was extremely nervous, and was gracious, but obviously he is not in the best of mental health, although doing much better than he was in the 90's.

He confounded more than a few by starting 7 minutes early, performing for 12 minutes total, and leaving without signing things. (Though the organizers promised he'd return soon for that - don't know if he did.)
