Austin needs bigger OoBs - The OoBenanny Fundraiser

If you're looking forward to another Sunday night of red hot laptop surfin', work email checkin' and Netflix queue updatin', we suggest you shake off that modern coil and head down to the first annual OoBenanny Fundraiser and Auction. Inspired by old-fashioned folk hootenannies, the OoBenanny fundraiser and auction is being thrown by Gnap! Theatre Projects to raise money for the 2006 Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and Miniature Golf Tournament. Last year's festival presented 31 ensembles from all the major comedy metroplexes, including New York, Los Angeles and even the cultural vortex of Dallas. The 2006 festival is gearing up for an expansion in the number of performers, stages, and evenings, and according to Gnap! artistic director and OoB festival producer Shannon McCormick, "to help make this happen, we're going to start paying our artists a more generous stipend for playing the festival."

(Austinist note: Based on Shannon and the OoB crew's comedic leanings, we can give you reasonable assurances that your $5 donation won't end up in the hands of Carrot Top.)

The OoBenanny will feature some of Austin's most notable (not to mention, nostalgia-inducing) bands, including the White Ghost Shivers, A Slice of Pie and Odyssey (Travis County's finest Journey cover band), plus an auction, food and libations.

So, fellow dwellers of Laptop Nation, venture out to the OoBenanny this Sunday. You might luck into a stiff-armed dance with a special someone during a heartfelt rendition of "Open Arms".

And if that is not worth $5, we're not sure what is.
