Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering one-on-one mentoring relationships for children throughout Travis, Williamson, McLennan and Brazos Counties, was recently awarded a contract for $50,000 to provide services specifically for children in the 78744 zip code. Under the "Youth of Promise Community Youth Development" contract and partnered with Palm Elementary, BBBS seeks to match 75 adult mentors with youths in the 78744, an area that's been shown to have a high level of juvenile delinquency.
If you're interested in volunteering your time, send 'em a note!
Also, next Saturday is the 23rd Annual Chuy's Hot to Trot 5K, starting at Lucy's Boatyard/Hula Hut on Lake Austin Blvd and winding through Tarrytown. Proceeds benefit BBBS. Registration is available online through next Thursday.
