Philanthropy is Always in Fashion
We're pretty sure this is what Derek Zoolander was getting at when he said there's more to life than being really, really good looking.
On Sunday, May 7th, Top Drawer Thrift Store is hosting their very own runway fashion show, "Top Drawer Couture", an event to raise money and awareness for Project Transitions. Austin’s Almost Impatient style team is creating the clothing for the event, taking items found in the thrift store and altering them into new, hip, and elegant designs for the runway. The Austin Chronicle’s Stephen Moser and Kate X Messer will be hosting the event. There will also be complimentary wine, hors d’oeuvres, a live DJ, and live entertainment on hand at the event. After the runway show, select attire will be auctioned off to the event attendees.
Top Drawer Thrift generates approximately 20% of the annual operating budget for Project Transitions, , a non-profit that provides housing, hospice care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS. Top Drawer Thrift also offers a voucher program to clients of other AIDS Service Organizations in Austin so that clients citywide may shop for clothing and necessary household items in a stigma-free environment.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 dollars at the door. Tickets are currently on sale at Top Drawer Thrift, Project Transitions’ administrative office, Orbit Salon, and Salon Kerizma.
You can donate to the Top Drawer Couture event on the Project Transitions website.
