Lakeside Living, Part 2

Apparently in response to our paean to Lakeside Living on Town Lake, Cypress Real Estate Advisors has proposed the construction of a 50-acre, 15 to 20 building, 2,500 condo complex on the south side of Town Lake, East of I-35, called, in an obvious reference to our post, "Lakeside." We thank Cypress for their speedy response to our request.
We know you're thinking, "Where's the beef? Why even waste our time with a development under 3,000 condos?"
Listen, dude, what's with the attitude? We're just trying to keep you informed about the coming condo glut in downtown Austin so that you can be prepared to snatch up whole developments for pennies on the dollar when the market crashes, ok? Why are you twisting our nuts?
No renderings of the proposed development in the article or on Cypress' web site exist. If anybody out there has some, we'd love to take a look. Just to mix things up from the Austin norm, may we suggest exteriors that don't involve limestone? Also, maybe mix in some commercial space along with the residential? We like to be able to walk out in the mornings to get a coffee on the way to wasting the day sitting by the lake.
One more thing — this seems like a prime opportunity to remedy the unfortunate fact that this part of Town Lake is not fronted by a hike and bike trail. The current layout, wherein the trail East of Congress abruptly ends at a pine fence, detours through the Statesman's parking lot, continues along a sidewalk on Riverside Drive and then feeds onto I-35 is a total buzz-kill. We like to walk in circles, blissfully ignorant of any nearby "cars." Let's get an extension of the hike and bike trail along the South Side of Town Lake all the way past this new development. A new pedestrian bridge over to Guerrero Park at that point would be awesome, but we'd settle for a path that went out over the S. Pleasant Valley Road bridge. We have a dream that one day all of Town Lake downstream from MoPac will be fronted by hike and bike trails. C'mon City Council, extract some concessions!
