Austin is once again celebrating New Year's Eve with First Night, and FNA is accepting artist proposals starting this coming Monday, May 1. They're calling for "emerging and established artists with big ideas for ringing in the New Year" to put their ideas down on paper and get 'em to FNA no later than 5pm, June 12. That may seem like a long time from now, but the proposals can include a heck of a lot of info, so getting one together might take awhile:
- A detailed, written description of your art (max 1 page)
- A detailed, itemized budget
- Itemized technical requirements
- A stage plan
- Additional site needs
- Installation needs
- Support materials (e.g. CDs, DVDs, VHS, audio cassettes, photos, slides, drawings, models)
...and much, much more. The accepted proposals are funded, so you know some overachiever is going to knock one outta the park with a comprehensive, impressive, multi-media display of their awesome art.
Speaking of, the application (which is required) includes the the following "discipline(s) for which your proposal is most allied (check no more than two): Dance, Visual/Installation Art, Film/Video/Projections, Literary/Storytelling/Spoken Word, Theater, Puppetry/Circus Arts, Music, and the all-inclusive Other. Point is, if you do something really cool, they'd like to hear about it no matter what kind of art it is!
If you need a little inspiration, you can check out some photos from last year's First Night.
