Updated: Austin City Limits Festival Tickets On Sale Today

(Ed. Note) *Unverified rumor update: Austinist reader Nathan tipped us off to this curious post on the ACL Concierge site (the site for high-rolling package-buyers - insert crass package joke here). But if you are to believe the graphic on the right, Coldplay will be coming back. No wonder the fest is not being held during OU-Texas weekend, how would all the college girls get to see that dreamy Chris Martin?*

Although the Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup is yet to be published, clamoring for tickets is set to begin today. A limited number of three-day passes go on sale today for $90 plus a service charge. This year will mark the fifth anniversary of the ACL Music Fest and will take place in Zilker Park on Sept. 15-17. Once the lineup is announced, or the $90 tickets run out, the ticket prices will go up to $100 and then $115. Although no official announcement has been made, rumors abound that The Flaming Lips, Son Volt, Kasey Chambers, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, The Subdudes and Buckwheat Zydeco will be featured performers. They have you right where they want you, so ya better buy now.

It wasn't wilco because it isn't on their site

  • Jean

April 13th clue is Wilco. The band was Uncle Tupelo.

I know for a fact Sufjan Stevens is booked. Something to look forward to!

I can handle the heat, but I don't want to be excreting brown phlegm from every orifice for months after the festival again. What can I say? It's just not my thang.

don't bet on it, re: RHCP, i decided i'd give them a shot after an 8 year break a few years ago and it was all stuff from the latest album. but we will keep fingers crossed for uplift mofo party plan or freaky styley.

yes, they said they were going to resod and have mist tents and hydration systems, etc. i am sure after the outbreak of anger last year they will do their best to fix it. still skeptical, they can't shae the sun

  • anon

They were able to control the dust at Lalopolooza last year and they are implementing the same thing for ACL. I guess the promoters learned from last year. Also, heard RHCP will be playing - let's just hope they leave the pop at home and bring their old stuff.

Yes, Michael, you are missing something obvious.

  • sigh

    michael,

    wrong again, but close.

ps. kinda embarrassing to show such ignorance, no?

especially after 'giving away' the secret contest.

  • michaelfavia

hah.. perfect clue. i had them up but didnt see the link.. thank you wikipedia. -mf

  • I mean, "relative". Is that more obvious?

  • It's all relative. That's all I'm sayin'.

    TODAY'S CLUE April 13, 2006

The driving force behind this act began his career in a band that shared half of its name with the birthplace of a famous fried-peanut-butter-sandwich-eater.

    Famous FPB eater: Elvis Presley?

    EP birthplace: Tupelo, Mississippi

Tupelo Honey = album not band so no go, am i missing something obvious?

    xxxxxxx tupelo or tupelo xxxxxx

Agreed with Ami. I didn't realize that I needed to prepare for ACL like I was going to Burning Man!

Is it just me or is this substantially more expensive than Tier 1 tix last year? For some reason I am remembering Tier 1's last year were more like $75...

  • Coldplay? Again? Ugh.

  • michaelfavia

At least it scales well. I just bought 6 tickets for $627USD instead of 112.50 each. Lesson learned: buy with friends if they are going to charge an outrageous 9.50 in shipping alone. For 9.50 i want a giftwrap and bike messenger to deliver it. Ah, finally a good use for all those track bikes around town.

  • Ami

Total now = $112.50 including all bogus service charges. FYI. I sure hope they do something to control the dust this year. I don't care if they have to astroturf Zilker - a girl's gotta breathe!
