News Bits!

news.jpg

  • The Senate is really close to finalizing the controversial immigration bill. The proposed bill separates illegal immigrants into three categories and just seems like it will be a big mess.
  • A teacher who kept a 40mm shell on his desk as a fancy-schmancy paperweight, tried to squish a bug with it and blew off his hand instead. We are hoping the bug survived because, now, we believe in karma.
  • We think, that between "M^!*#r F#(kers" and "you know what I'm sayin'" Busta Rhymes presents to us his own impromtu news cast (quite eloquently, actually). In "the process of social activity coming together" for Busta's birthday BBQ bash, some crazy mofo lost control of his car and slammed right into his producer's pad.
  • Former New York Mayor Rudolph Guiliani testified in court recounting the events of the 9/11 attacks at the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui. Moussaoui was deemed eligible for the death penalty based on his involvment with Al Qaeda and the action he could have taken to prevent the attacks almost 5 years ago.
  • Several people were killed when a Shiite Mosque was attacked by two suicide bombers in Baghdad.
  • Apple is making it possible to run Windows on Macs. Now the hipsters with their cool Apple logo laptops are going to have an easier transition to cool.
  • Gang activity is thought to be a problem at some Austin area schools. But school officials insist that the gangs aren't an issue on school grounds.
  • The Austin Wranglers are seriously considering building their own stadium. The indoor football team says they have a demand that needs to be met, and the demand will probably increase when they finally toss Deion Sanders into the mix.
  • When we were "running" on the trail the other day, we were a little peeved that the trail surrounding Lou Neff Point was closed off (because no one warned us). Now we're REALLY GLAD to know that they're widening that curve because we have almost tripped over a cute little dog on more than one occassion. The trail improvements are supposed to be complete in June. -

"A painstakingly crafted compromise bill that supporters claimed would win an overwhelming majority received only 38 of the 60 votes needed to protect it from being watered down with amendments by opponents in a test vote Friday morning (April 7), according to The Associated Press. The derailment of the deal came after Democrats, who insisted that the bill have no amendments, lost six votes."
