Lampson Wants To Make Delay Go Away

The current political buzz is that Democratic candidate Nick Lampson will officially call for DeLay's immediate resignation. If DeLay resigns, Governor Rick Perry will have to call a special election to replace him, which would be held on May 13. However, if DeLay stays in office through June like he wants to, the election to replace him will be held November 7.
Basically the longer DeLay stays on the more time the new Republican nominee has to campaign. Potential candidates for the new Republican position include Harris County Judge Robert Eckels and county tax collector-assessor, Paul Bettencourt.
Democratic candidate Nick Lampson had been re-elected three times without serious opposition, but in 2003, DeLay orchestrated a controversial mid-decade redistricting in an effort to get more Republican congressmen elected from Texas. Lampson was one of the targets. He is now a formidable opponent in the 22nd Congressional District election.
From Nick Lampson's webpage,
"From day one, I have been running this race because Southeast Texans need a congressman who will make headlines for the right reasons," Lampson said. "I have spent the past several weeks talking to voters about my vision for stronger homeland security, plans to provide for NASA and cutting our massive debt and deficit. I will continue to push these issues from now until November."
Remember that change begins at the local level, get involved and support the leaders you believe in.
