Breaking News: Ding Dong the Bitch is Dead - Tom DeLay Stepping Down

Rep. Tom DeLay is apparently pulling out of the race for re-election to his House seat. CNN has reported that, just minutes ago, DeLay completed a conference call with the Texas delegation to the House, announcing his plans. In order to field a Republican candidate for the general election, there will be a special election for DeLay's place on the ballot. The Mayor of Sugarland is expected to be one of the candidates running. The special election winner must win 50.1% of the votes or face a run-off.
With the president's failures at home and abroad, and with the Jack Abramoff scandal looming, it appeared as though the Democrats may take the House back. So maybe DeLay sensed he would be even further marginalized with a House shift to the Democrats and just bailed. Or maybe he saw polls that said he was in a dead heat. Cowardly chump-ass bitch. But that does not seem a sufficient explanation. We would imagine that some Republicans will be glad to see the lightning rod step down before November. We know we are.
From DeLay: ""After many weeks of personal, prayerful thinking and analysis, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to close this public service chapter of my life." Nice way to work God in there, Tom.
The bad news here is two-fold:
1) DeLay seems intent to use his campaign funds (after resigning) to pay for his legal fees. Shady!
2) This will make it much tougher for Democrat Nick Lampson (a man we support) to win the election in November.
