Breaking News: Ding Dong the Bitch is Dead - Tom DeLay Stepping Down

rat2.jpg

Rep. Tom DeLay is apparently pulling out of the race for re-election to his House seat. CNN has reported that, just minutes ago, DeLay completed a conference call with the Texas delegation to the House, announcing his plans. In order to field a Republican candidate for the general election, there will be a special election for DeLay's place on the ballot. The Mayor of Sugarland is expected to be one of the candidates running. The special election winner must win 50.1% of the votes or face a run-off.

With the president's failures at home and abroad, and with the Jack Abramoff scandal looming, it appeared as though the Democrats may take the House back. So maybe DeLay sensed he would be even further marginalized with a House shift to the Democrats and just bailed. Or maybe he saw polls that said he was in a dead heat. Cowardly chump-ass bitch. But that does not seem a sufficient explanation. We would imagine that some Republicans will be glad to see the lightning rod step down before November. We know we are.

From DeLay: ""After many weeks of personal, prayerful thinking and analysis, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to close this public service chapter of my life." Nice way to work God in there, Tom.

The bad news here is two-fold:
1) DeLay seems intent to use his campaign funds (after resigning) to pay for his legal fees. Shady!
2) This will make it much tougher for Democrat Nick Lampson (a man we support) to win the election in November.

    Nope, no confusion here.

I understand what you care about is calling people you disagree with names. I don't read this column expecting any enlightenment.

It is your column and you can write what you wish. If "cowardly chump-ass bitch" is what it takes to get your point across, then it is what it is.

  • odam

nicely done, gladiator, once again confusing our site for somewhere where we care about the "height of political discussion." i think you might prefer Foxist.com

    enjoy

  • Bah Humbug

    Jack,

What did you expect from somewhere where "Cowardly chump-ass bitch" and "douchebag" are the height of political discussion?

    Three predictions...

    1. Ronnie Earle's shamelessly self-serving prosecution of Mr. Delay will yield no convictions.

    2. Mr. Delay will not be convicted of anything relating to the Abramoff scandal.

    3. Mr. Lampson will still be a former Congressman after November.

republicans(right) and democrats(left) can both be just as shitty as the other. just take a look at the scandals in canada that have been plaguing the Liberal party over the past few years.

either way, i'm happy to see a corrupt politician finally stepping down.

People accused me of being too soft on the ACL Fest organizers yesterday, so I had to make up for it.

Tommyboy is such a scum bag that I literally popped a bottle of champagne (and not the cheap shit, it was a $30 bottle from Whole Foods) last night when I saw the announcement on CNN.

I guess like Ted Leo sung, "I want to take it to the President/him and all his cabinet, with a broom/I want to sweep the halls of arrogance/

sweep the walls of the excrement of these baboons"

  • Jooley Ann

Wow Declan, that is a lot of vitriol -- and I couldn't have put it better myself. Nail on the head, man.

  • jaco

Jakc - Kinky is an independent or did this escape you awesome powers of observation when reviewing this site for its political content?

  • Declan McManus

What a douchebag-- did you see Delay's comments about why he is stepping down? The most liberal of democrats (who could actually run/win in an election) in Texas is still almost a Republican. Delay tries to make it sound like a baby killing/eating tax raising peacenik is going to automatically supercede Jesus as the chosen one if Delay doesn't step aside right. this. very. fucking. moment.

    What an arrogant asswipe.

And, he's so fucking concerned about his constituents... that he's going to resign before his term is up (rather than just not run for re-election) so his constituents tax dollars can be used to fund a special election.

He's such a fucking clown. I can't believe anyone could possibly support this guy. Everything is about him him him and never about the people, no matter what he wants us to believe. He's an attention and power whore (like most politicians, yes) of the worst degree.

What an embarassment. I hope he fades away to obscurity in a jailcell. And, I hope his kids and grandkids grow up to suffer the worst because of what his kind of meglomania wraught upon this state, country, and world.

just because we think delay is a chump doesn't make us narrow-minded, jack. and you have no idea what we think of democrats from reading this article. i would second ish's comment. more than likely you are some troll that searches the net for stories that are negative about delay and then decries those who criticize him for being narrow-minded. hilarious. yes, this is not a detailed post about how/why delay is a dirty politician, nor does it weigh in on democrats' bad behavior. but that is not the purpose of it. you are funny, jack. please give us a link to your site, i am sure it is very enlightening.

  • ish

actually jack you sound more like a republican than an independent thinker.

  • Jack

I hate Delay, too, but my God, you guys are the most narrow-minded thinkers. Democrats are crooks, too. I guess I really am one of the last true independent thinkers out there, not toting a party's line.
