It's Wednesday night and you didn't think to buy Franz/Death Cab tickets. What to do? Well, as usual, the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown has something on you'd enjoy. The final showing of "World's Best Commercials" happens at 7pm, and the breadth alone of this compilation makes it look mighty good.

Over 140 (!!) commericals from around the world will be shown, and the curators promise amped up sex, violence, and comedy during the foreign bits. David Lynch, Michel Gondry, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's commercial work will also be included. More info is available here.

In other film happenings, The Sinus Show continues skewering Flashdance this weekend, and the AFS has announced a benefit screening of Cannes and Sundance standout Room (with director and actors present) for next Thursday.

Perhaps everyone knows this already, but just in case they don't....

Room was nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards: Best Female Lead for Cyndi Williams and the John Cassavetes Award for the film. (The JC Award is "given to the best feature made for under $500,000; Award given to the writer, director, and producer.")

Williams has been highly regarded for her local work as an actress/playwright/director (etc.) for quite some time. Among the other nominees in her category were Felicity Huffman and Laura Linney. Huffman won the award for her work in Transamerica.

It's pretty cool that Alamo & AFS are giving us a chance to check out this film. I plan to go!
