Film Bits: Tarantino Is Back In April; Free Movies @ The Backyard This Spring

As if SXSW didn't just bring enough film love into your life, the Austin Film Society and the Drafthouse have announced some new events to entertain you this spring.
First, the freebie. The Alamo Drafthouse will be screening classic films at The Glenn @ The Backyard. The Glenn is apparently a new, smaller outdoor music venue on the Backyard grounds on Highway 71. "Rebel Without A Cause" (April 6), "East Of Eden" (April 20), and "Key Largo" (May 11) are the first 3 entries in the series, and each will begin at 8:30pm.
Now, get out your wallet that says "Bad Motherf-----" on it, because the AFS is doing their QT Fest thing yet again. Beginning April 24th, Quentin and crew will be in town at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown for "QT 7 - The Best Of". Screenings will be held nightly through 4/30 except for 4/25, when the event moves to The Glenn (there it is again) for an outdoor evening of wackiness and gore. If you're never been to these festivals before, Tarantino brings prints of obscure B-movies and programs each night around a theme: kung fu, good old boys, overlooked westerns, and crime in the city are some nights from older fests. The titles are never revealed until right before the screening, so one never knows what B-movie extravaganza awaits. Tarantino personally introduces each of the films, and usually sits with the crowd drinking beer and laughing along with his selections.
Badges for QT7 go on sale April 4 at 8am through the Austin Film Society at 512.322.0145 for $145. You must be an AFS member to purchase a badge (in case you're wondering, you can join for $20). If seats remain after badge sales are done, nightly passes will be available at the Drafthouse for $20 ($30 weekends) beginning 15 minutes before showtime. As for the spring films at The Glenn, hey, they're free!
