Daily Texan Columnist Hates Liberals. And MySpace. And SXSW. And Baby Penguins.

Daily Texan writer Eric Seufert has a bone to pick with the liberal media. And hipsters. And Democrats. Seufert is a senior at UT majoring in finance, with an apparent minor in either satire or unsubstantiated hate. Or so it seems. We were on the Dillo riding to work this morning when we came across his Opinion piece in the Daily Texan. The headline: SXSW: Liberal menace. The piece goes off on several tangents, but the thrust seems to be that the liberal media is ruining America. Or something. It looks more like a transcription of a conservative radio program caller than an editorial. Few facts to support his claims, much vitriol.

A small excerpt:

I don't even know if we conservatives are fooled by the liberal media's deceit - we may just be tired of fighting an uphill battle. An underdog can only wage war against evil for as long as victory is on the horizon, and the capitulation of vulgarity and immorality seems like a pipe dream at this point.

The voices of reason such as Sean Hannity and myself are being drowned out by the liberal talking points concealed within emo songs and MySpace blog entries. The liberal monopoly on information has reduced our society to androgyny and the malnutrition required for men to fit into size 0 pants. Kudos, liberals - you've defeated God.

As we say, not sure if he is really this angry, trying to be satirical or just wanting to incite fury from his readers. Either way, we thought you might enjoy one of our town's collegiate scribes. We did. We think.

Full Column Here

*Per all the comments, we believe he was trying to be satirical, it was just kinda random and an info.-spray. We think the intent was humor, he just missed his mark a little in our humble opinion. But we have been accused of the same in this space, so we totally understand.*

  • I grew up with this kid. Our moms were pregant together before that. In the 7th grade we made a secret blood pact sealed with two tears -- one from my eye, and one from his.

    He was being totally serious.

  • John

This guy is my former roommate. I can assure you it is complete satire...the guy is a liberal

  • mary

it must suck to fail so miserably at satire.

  • zuzu

I went to high school with this joker. When I got over the initial shock of seeing his name on this website, I read on... and laughed my liberal ass off.

  • andrew

a piece like that makes me wants to find a nice liberal woman, and get her pregnant just so I can have her abort the fetus.

seems a little over the top though. he wasn't even trying to make sense logically speaking - which most conservatives *at least* fake.

  • F.E.F.

Oh yeah, and he is on Something Awful

  • F.E.F.

Well, he also works for the Travesty, so this piece can't be *that* serious.

  • odam

oh, man, T, you missed a golden shot. i think the editorial was satire, just nto all that funny. then again, i have been accused of same in this space. so no biggie.

  • Normally, you can swing a dead cat and hit a musician in Austin. Last week, you could swing a dead cat and hit a musician with a mod haircut. I swear I thought I was in London circa 1960. Is Pete Townshend collecting royalties on this? WTF?

Thankfully, the not-so-ironic trucker hats and Elvis sunglasses seem to be on the outs. I saw a lonely trucker hat in the middle of Congress Ave. sidewalk on Friday. I should've stopped to take a picture.

  • Travis

Pretty sure this is meant to be ironic. Although he's right, hipsters ARE scum.

  • Peter Ersatz

Hardly worth dissecting, but you would think a right-wing prick like him might realize that SXSW = $$$$$ for all Austinites.

  • Stephen Colbert

Ok, i'm thinking of suing this guy for taking my schtick!!

    Stephen Colbert

  • bucho

He probably thinks "Bob Roberts" is a real person...

  • That is prize hilarity. Far too funny to be sincere.

  • Marc

I'm guessing Eric wasn't at the Yuppie Pricks showcase.
