Racial Profiling in Austin

In their recently-released annual report on racial profiling, APD says the numbers of driver searches went down last year. "Consent searches" went down about eighty percent from 2004 to 2005. Chief Knee made a point of saying that work has been done to ensure that consensual searches are indeed consensual. Over 90% of the African-Americans and Hispanics searched consensually had nothing illegal in their possession . . . which just goes to show how ridiculous racial profiling is. At least it appears APD is headed in the right direction.
