Absolute Debauchery Moved, Depraved Fangirls et. al Rock Sixth Street

Last-minute logistical considerations have forced us to move our private afterparty to a different space. Things are going as planned, but unfortunately we're not able to accomodate nearly as many people as we initially anticipated -- as such, we'll be sending out final announcements today and tomorrow to those who RSVPed.

But don't lose hope if you're not on the final list! We'll have a very small set of extra spots saved for the first few people to show up at our day party. (Red 7, Wednesday, Noon!)

I'm Totally Blogging This When I Get Home.
Presented by depravedfangirls.org, sxswbaby.com, seeyouinthepit.com, and therichgirlsareweeping.com.

5PM * Charles Bissell of The Wrens (Teaneck, NJ, Absolutely Kosher Records)
6PM * The Hourly Radio (Dallas, TX, Kirtland Records)
7PM * Pompeii (Austin, TX, Eyeball Records)

Wednesday, 15 March 2006
5 to 8 PM
The Lair Upstairs

More after the expandotron!

(from their description):

Charles Bissell is ¼ of New Jersey indie rock heroes, The Wrens. One man, one amp, and six-ish loops of guitar.

"Having lived and worked together, without any major label funding, for more than 15 years, [The Wrens] have experienced life at the rock'n'roll coal face for longer than might be deemed good for their sanity. They have acquired serious day jobs and families, but have never abandoned their mission to create beautiful songs -as on their acclaimed album The Meadowlands -and then blow them up on stage in a blaze of orchestrated anarchy." – The Times (London), March 8, 2006

Fresh from a UK tour with New York darlings stellastarr*, The Hourly Radio offer Texas-tempered atmospheric pop laden with guitar and tight rhythms. While reminiscent of Austin scenestars Explosions in the Sky and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Dallas-based The Hourly Radio are eminently accessible with sweet vocals and new perspective on the time-honored themes of love and loss that mark their predecessors and influences.

"More Dublin than Dallas, these four mood-stricken Texas boys create sonic vistas both dark and soaring, intense and uplifting. At their most anthemic, The Hourly Radio share a branch on the musical family tree with any long lost cousins of U2. On the other side of the gene pool, they have recently played shows with the more contemporary peers stellastarr* and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah... Promising, indeed." – FILTER

Pompeii are a richly textured five-piece braiding post-punk bass, layered guitars, aggressive drumming, and strings; filtering emo through the best of the Factory, 4AD, and Creation catalogs. Unabashedly emotional, sincere, and bittersweet.

Thanks Allen! We've heard through the grapevine that word has gotten out that we have free beer. Alas, we have free beer. But we DO have free cupcakes to the first 75 or so people who show up (several of which will probably be on the bill...and the bartender, who will not be giving anyone free beer--just a reminder).

Hope to see you there! (And everyone else too!)

ooh. Freudian slip.

We do NOT have free beer.

There is NOT any free beer.

aaack. typos.

oh well. i'm pretty sure i got in on that 20 person contest, but didn't get on the final list. i suppose free beer during the day will have to make do. i was really looking forward to free drinks afterhours. it's so much like that friend's place that you're at late one night, and he/she's already passed out.
