TXRD Rolls into SXSW

When permit issues kept the TXRD Roller Girls out of their very own Thunderdome they went in search of the ultimate space for their next bout. Well, they've found it; the Austin Convention Center. Not only in the heart of downtown Austin, but during the heart of SXSW 2006. While they continue to work on issues with the Crockett Center so they can move home, they have been able to procure an awesome temporary space thanks to help from the City of Austin. Twice the number of fans, twice the noise, twice the derby, twice the fun. It will be a double derby weekend, so get ready to get your derby on.
It's one of the most exciting weeks in Downtown Austin and adding a Lonestar Rollergirls bout may very well be just enough to tip March 16 into a super-sonic explosion! In celebration of the annual South by Southwest Music Festival, the Lonestar Rollergirls are hosting a historic interstate matchup, promising a good beatin' to their nemisisters from the West. It's city-meets-country as the high-flyin' LA Derby Dolls roll into Texas to face off against a TXRD team comprised of three skaters from each Lonestar team. No punches pulled and no holds barred, these Dolls are determined to make their bones against the veteran Lonestars. But you can bet the Lonestars won't be giving up their home turf without an old fashioned, barn burnin' fight to the finish. You won't want to miss history's second-ever interstate all-girl banked track bout.
The Wednesday matchup will feature live music by L.A. bands Pretty in Stereo and Pat Todd and the Rank Outsiders. Sunday's bout will feature music by Barfield. The second matchup of the week will feature Rhinestone Cowgirls vs. Holy Rollers. Any derby historian can tell you, cowgirls and Catholic school girls just don't mix. We've tried to tell them to play nicely, to share, to get along, but they just don't listen. And this season is no different. Be there Sunday to see the arch-rivals Rhinestone Cowgirls and the Holy Rollers face off for the first time in the 2006 season. In April the Rollergirls plan to be back to their regularly scheduled program as well as back in the Thunderdome.
