Benefit to Help Devastated Guatemalan Mayan Communities
Sure, you've heard of Katrina and Rita, but did you know about Hurricane Stan?
[from Wikipedia] Hurricane Stan was the eleventh hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. It was also the sixth of seven tropical cyclones to make landfall in Mexico. It was embedded in a larger non-tropical system of rainstorms that dropped torrential rains in the Central American countries of Guatemala and El Salvador and in southern Mexico, causing flooding and mudslides that lead to at least 1,620 and possibly up to 2,000 deaths; Stan is estimated to be directly responsible for 80 of these.
Well, just because a natural disaster doesn't hit your state or your neighboring state, and just because it wasn't given tons of media coverage, doesn't mean that there isn't a massive number of people in need. With that in mind, Ruta Maya Coffee, The Mayan Communities Funds and the Central American Preservation Fund bring you "Will ___ For Food," this Sunday at Gallery Lombardi and Tambaleo.
The event will feature an art exhibit and sale with pieces from over 35 artists, selling their works at a very reduced rate, in hopes of selling all of it to raise money for these damaged communities. All proceeds go to the Guatemalan hunger crisis and the rebuilding of Mayan communities damaged by Stan. There will also be music galore, with DJ sets and bands playing all day, including DJ Manny; Nautilis; Supercontinent; Govinda; Oliver Rajamani; Overlord with the Valejo Brothers and much, much more.
The party starts at 3pm. So head down to Gallery Lombardi and Tambaleo, to buy some art, shake your ass and help a great cause. Find out more at the website dedicated to this event.
