Actor Drops Suit Against City

Mugshot__jason patric.jpgHollywood schlub Jason Patric decided to drop his civil suit against the City of Austin yesterday. The "Speed 2" star claimed that he was arrested with "excessive force" and subsequently falsely imprisoned after getting plastered at Antone's. Patric was in town attending a screening of "The Alamo," and later was found stumbling around Fifth and Colorado at 2:30am by a cop attempting to rid the downtown area of its post-closing douchebaggage - from the police affidavit and testimony from a plaintiff's witness:

"As I recall, Visi approached and said, 'Do you have a problem?' The officer said, 'I can arrest you for public intoxication.' (Patric) said, 'Give me the test.' And at that point the officer got physical and said, 'This is the test.' "

Visi was attempting to clear the intersection when Patric, who was on foot, "assumed an aggressive stance." When the officer threatened to arrest him, Patric offered to take a sobriety test and told the officer to test him or take him to jail. Visi then tried to arrest him and took Patric to the ground, the affidavit said.

Leave it to these LA-types to make everything so godawfully cinematic. And while the City is now off the hook, the suit against police officer Joshua Visi remains.

Unless you've been on his side of the conflict, then don't judge. I was arrested for the same thing and had a lawyer present when it happened. The lawyer later went with me to court, read the police report as well as witnessed what had happened and the good ol' APD made up a lot of things that just weren't true. They were overly physical with me and decided three was better than 1 once I madea comment about my rights. Their comment was "I have your rights right here" and then slammed me to the ground for no apparent reason.

  • Douchebag he may be, but Austin Police aren't known for their restraint (but are for their restraining). In this situation, why not just cuff him and throw him in the back of a cop car, why throw him to the ground? I hate wrangling drunks as much as the next guy, but APD needs to calm the fuck down.
