Watching It, Watching Me: All You Need Is Love (and good hair)

By accident I flipped to #1 Single, the new E show featuring songstress Lisa Loeb, who's dating her way through New York City's available hip men, lookin' for love. I was instantly hooked. It's funny that the tagline calls her the real-life Carrie Bradshaw. She's cute and sassy and creative, but unlike Ms. Bradshaw she really wants a husband and she really, really wants babies. And she's just so cute, with that voice and those glasses and that silky white skin. It's hard to believe she is 37. To me she's always 25 and serenading "Stay" to a fluffy cat in black and white footage.

Sometimes I see her on Noggin--the kids channel. Noggin is the answer to parents who feel guilty about their kids watching TV (it's commercial-free), but not guilty enough to ban it. It features music videos where groups like Hot Peas N' Butter and folky kid favorite Laurie Berkner sing about numbers and spaghetti. Ms. Loeb shows up sometimes with fellow sweetie pie singer Elizabeth Mitchell. They croon about the moon and dance around in funky clothes and shoes.

loeb.jpgSo Lisa Loeb and Dweezil Zappa broke up. Didn't that seem like a match made in Heaven? But I guess ol' Dweezil wasn't ready to make babies so it ended. Now Lisa is free to date young men with stylish hair. As much as I have affections for the Zappas, I have found that Lisa's adventures are a way for me to both feel good about my own life (thank goodness I'm not in New York City at 37 and desparate for babies), and to live vicariously through her (cool chick with the most awesome wardrobe ever dates cute guys, hangs out with bevy of cool friends, and has the coolest apartment in a cool city). Cool.
