She Wants Revenge - She Wants Revenge
It was only mere months ago that this sharp LA quartet first played Austin, dazzling the crowd at Stubb's who's arrived to hear the Lovemakers. Think Joy Division without the Ian Curtis seizure dance, and you're just about there. Line most indicative of the album's overarching theme of sexual frustration: "She's in the bathroom, she pleasures herself / Says I'm a bad man, she's locking me out"
The Minus 5 - The Minus 5
What was originally a simple side project by Scott McCaughey, frontman of Seattle's The Young Fresh Fellows, has blossomed over the years (decades, really) into a fairly prolific endeavor. Now on Yep Roc, this latest release is packed with guest cameos, including The Decemberists' Colin Meloy and Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, and - surprise, surprise - they're actually rather good.
