[from Publishers' Weekly] Men 25-34 with Bachelor's degrees today are making just $6,000 more than those with high school diplommas in 1972.

Pretty shocking, right? Or maybe not at all.

In her excellent book Strapped : Why America's 20- and 30-Somethings Can't Get Ahead, author Tamara Draut examines the battles young people face in trying to join the American middle class and her ideas for reviving the American Dream. This morning, she joins Diane Rehm of NPR station WAMU to discuss her book. The show airs at 10:06 cst and can also be listened to on the archive section of the WAMU website. (And, yes, we realize this is not taking place in Austin, but we feel it may affect one or two of you out there.)

As an aside, if you do listen and are not familiar with Rehm, please do not leave catty comments about her vioce. Like Bobby Kennedy, Jr. she suffers from a rare neurological disorder, spasmodic dysphonia, which causes hoarseness and vocal tremors.
