Hey, Bands! Play at Waterloo This SXSW

waterloo-records.jpg

Waterloo Records is still accepting applications for their annual in-store blitz at SXSW. To enter, all you need to do is fill out a simple form ... and be prepared to cough up the estimated $600 in fees, which includes advertisements, equipment rental, security (because the PR hawks descending upon our fair town are vicious - vicious!), "hospitality" and other assorted things that we, the music fans, rarely think about.

You can download the pdf form here. Be sure to submit yours by this Friday! Winners will be contacted by February 27th.

as you know, though, a lot more than jsut upcoming bands play there. i remember seeing Medeski, Martin & Wood at Waterloo in 1996. They weren;t as established as they are now (like on blue note or anything) but they weren't quite up-and-coming, but it was great exposure and i know they sold a lot of cd's and got some seirous grassroots interest. so i guess it doesn't entirely address the point, or i am not making a point, maybe the point is, it is not neccessarily aplace for bands just struggling to get a foot in the door, but it helps a band with a foot in to get their calf in. ok, less caffeine

  • damn! $600 seems a bit steep for an upcoming band to get to play for half an hour. but i suppose the exposure and cds they will sell to the instore crowd might make up for it. thanks for the info.
