Radioactive Musicians, Kitchen Utensils, and a Crappy Car

We feel like we constantly make this statement, but once again we couldn't be happier to be in Austin, the capital of live music bliss. From hometown heroes to our favorite new bands, we're preparing for some bad ass shows this week.
Don't let their name scare you away. The string-infused indie pop of Margot & the Nuclear So-and-So's is the best thing to come out of Indiana in the past year (maybe ever, unless you really like corn and pollution). Their album covers a lot of ground, perhaps too much, but we love the folksy emotion in "Jen Is Bringing The Drugs" and wouldn't want to give up the energy of "On A Freezing Chicago Street." Check them out for yourself on Wednesday at Stubbs. As always, hit up their MySpace for sample tunes and a new friend.
If you didn't buy tickets to the Friday Spoon show you're kinda screwed. It is sold out, a crushing development, because Gimme Fiction is one of our favorite albums. Ever. Though Britt Daniels may have left us for Portland, his band is still showing Austin the love we deserve by gracing us with two shows. And, fortunately, tickets are still available for Thursday. They headline La Zona Rosa, and we suggest getting there early for openers I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness.
Finally, Belaire has an old fashioned 7-inch release party on Saturday. 7-inch? Flashback to our early emo days. But we promise this music inspires dancing rather than wrist slitting. MySpace it, just to be sure. At the Parish, with Loxsly starting things off at 9 pm.
Recap:
2/1 = Margot & the Nuclear So-and-So's @ Stubbs
2/2 (or 3, over achievers) = Spoon w/ I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness @ La Zona
2/4 = Belaire w/ Loxsly @ Parish
Making it to all three = You win. You are also deaf and hungover, but most winners are.
