John Mueller's BBQ Closes, Vows to Reopen Elsewhere

jmbbq.jpg

We've eaten so much brisket and pork ribs at John Mueller's BBQ on Manor Road that we should probably have an honorary diploma from Bovine University. Their delicious meat ranked very highly on our DSP (Deep Smoke Penetration) Scale. Sadly, they closed recently, owing to circumstances that are still "slightly unclear," according to Austinist informant Rosa - some suspect this might partly be Time Warner's fault.

But, as it turns out, John Mueller's is planning on re-opening in a new, as-yet-undetermined location - and they need a bit of help from the community to make that happen. As such, this Saturday they'll be hosting a BBQ feast over at Kellie's Place (next to The Peacock and the Pedernales Lofts) with $5 plates of mouth-watering meaty mayhem, from 10am until they run out of cattle. Live music is currently in the works; word has it that these barbeque documentarians will be hanging out as well.

i had a dream last night and JUBCHA was revealed to me. i can not remember any of it. except that it was a woman, which i know to be untrue. maybe i am getting my dreams mixed up. anywho, you shall be uncloaked at some point, my friend. that day draws nigh.

  • JUBCHA

BUSINESS IS HARD, TAKE IT FROM JUBCHA. YOU MUST BE FRUGAL..OTHERWISE YOULL BE IN THE HARD COLD MEAN STREETS DUMPSTER DIVING FOR YOUR NEXT MEAL AND SLEEPING UNDER 4X4 SUVs FOR PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS.

THEY SHOULD HAVE CONSULTED ME WHEN TIMES WERE GOOD CAUSE I COULD HAVE SAVED THEM FROM THE HARD TIMES.

    I KNOW. IVE BEEN THERE.

  • this is sad news, indeed. i have been going there pretty regularly (except for when i moved out of austin - and even then when i visited, mueller's was the first place i would go to) since january 2002. even though john would be gruff sometimes, i always returned to eat those tender ribs and smoky brisket. i hope they can get back on their feet; they are beginning to be an austin institution for a lot of people. i'll see you all on saturday...bring a truckload of people and grub!
