TV Tonight: What to Watch Instead of You-Know-Who
If you would like to hear about how our country rocks and why spying on us Joe Schmoes is necessary, then at 8pm tonight, be sure to tune to the basic networks for El Presidente's State of the Union address. KVUE (ABC), KXAN (NBC), KEYE (CBS), KTBC (FOX) and even KLRU (PBS) will be showing Bush's speech (and offering commentary afterwards).
**Editorial Note: While we would never encourage listening to W. pontifuhmuhkate about the state of our Union and evil-doers and nukular weapons, etc. and do not condone drinking to excess, we would suggest that if you have to watch the president tonight, have some fun with it. We encourage drinking games. Try this one. You will be blind drunk - and still smarter than the leader of the free world - in no time.**
If the prospect of watching same speech makes you angry at your television, calm down. You have other options. Here are our recommendations:
Starting at 7pm:
- On TCM, Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper star in Ball of Fire. Stanwyck plays a dancer with a mouth for slang who gets picked up by a house full of professors. Worth watching for all the 40's era slang - and for Stanwyck and dishy Dana Andrews too.
Starting at 8pm:
- Supernatural, KNVA (WB). We don't watch this show, but if we did it would be because Dean from Gilmore Girls (Jared Padalecki) is in it.
- Veronica Mars, KBEJ (UPN) is a re-run. If you've always wanted to catch it but never had the chance, here you go.
- Winter X Games on ESPN. There's this thing called snow, and although we won't get to see any of it this winter, other people enjoy skiiing in it. Also on ESPN2: Florida v. Mississippi college basketball.
- Mystery Woman on Hallmark. What's Kellie Martin been up to since she left ER? She's been making these not-that-great made-for-TV movies for Hallmark. Okay, we don't really recommend this one.
- Sex and the City on TBS. The first two episodes from Season 6 are showing, and yes, we have seen them multiple times. We love that Harry.
- Ruby in Paradise on IFC. Ashley Judd broke into Hollywood with this role. We wish she had stuck with the indie films instead of making crap like Double Jeopardy. See Todd Field (before he directed In the Bedroom) in this nicely shot, deceptively simple film.
