The Greatest Shake

shake.jpg

We spend a fair amount of time considering our options for sweets. It's not the best way to spend our time, or the most kind to our hips, but nevertheless, sugar has always been a staple in our lives. One of our favorite sugar providers is that All American Tradition, the Milkshake. We never pass up a good shake, despite Dr. Atkins' suggestions.

What exactly is required to make a good milkshake we can't say, we just know one when we taste it. We have tried Dirty Martin's, Hut's, Amy's, Frisco, Denny's, you name it (and please do, name it, in the comments section) but so far, we have been most impressed with the milkshakes available at EZ's. They offer Banana, Chocolate, Cherry, Espresso, Strawberry, Peppermint, and Oreo Cookie. We can't pick a favorite. All come topped with whipped cream and a cherry. We love them all! And we can't get enough. Screw you, low carb diets. Vive La Sugar!

    Amy's totally does malts!

sandy's does a good malt. and cheap. sadly it is a stone's throw from my apt. hence the high blood pressure and growing waistband

I'm a malt girl myself and was happy to see them on the menu at EZs. Much as I love Amy's, they don't do malts.

Nau's makes good shakes, and their burgers rock.

  • PLAYERS. damn right, its better than yours.

Ben & Jerry's is the business. And all their money (5th and lamar) goes to non-profit, hard to beat. (try vanilla with chocolate syrup. i think afficionados call it the black and white shake, but i have heard someone else debate that terminology, saying that monkier refers to chocolate + vanilla ice cream)

Neau's Pharmacy on West Lynn also make s avery fine old fashion shake.

i agree with eliz. hillbert's are great, plus they deliver! i always wanted to find a place to deliver shakes and i was so happy when i found hillbert's.

  • IMHO, Hill-berts has the best shake in Austin, period. Those butter-fat shakes = heaven in a styrofoam cup. Fran's makes a good shake too, but it pales in comparison.

most coffee shops make a better milkshake, in my opinion, than EZ's, although that oreo shake is pretty damn good.

spider house and austin java company both make terrific mocha shakes. halcyon does a pretty good chocolate one. oh, and amy's ice cream has a very rich, thick chocolate shake that i like.
