Hurrah, it’s Friday! There’s plenty of stuff going on around town this weekend, but perhaps you can find the time to slip into a cool, dark theatre and enjoy one of this week’s new movie releases.
*The New World
Another take on the story of Pocahontas, this time by director Terrence Malick. Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, and our future husband, Christian Bale, star in a film certain to at least be more historically authentic than Disney.
*Match Point
Woody Allen’s latest, with the delectable Jonathan Rhys Meyers and she-of-the-bee-stung-lips, Scarlett Johansson. This one’s more Crimes and Misdemeanors than Melinda and Melinda. Thank Gawd.
Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World
We tried coming up with something to say here. Looking for Albert Brooks’ Relevance…hmm. Looking for Comedy in this Movie…nah. Eh, forget it.
Underworld: Evolution
A sequel to Underworld? Really? We’re beginning to think that these days 80% of movies are made just so someone can base a video game off them.
*End of the Spear
When we first saw a preview for this film about a dangerous mission trip to the jungles of Ecuador, we thought it was a made-for-TV movie. But it’s not, apparently.
*Austinist recommends. We also recommend these first runs: Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Good Night and Good Luck, Chronicles of Narnia, Fun with Dick and Jane, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Munich, Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic, Syriana, The Squid and the Whale, Walk the Line
