MLK Day Celebration and Community March

Happy Birthday (observed), Dr. King. To celebrate the national MLK Day holiday, the Heritage Council is sponsoring the 2006 Community March. The March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in Austin.
The Community March kicks off at 9 a.m. with a short program at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus. The march will then move to the south steps of the Capitol for a brief rally. Afterwards, the march will make the 1.5 mile walk to Huston-Tillotson University (map) for a Culture Festival sponsored by the Heritage Council. It will be a day of activites, events and music.
Last year’s march drew an estimated 15,000 people and organizers are anticipating even more individuals to unite for this year's celebration. We hope to see you there.
