Hooray for Campaign 2006!

foam2.jpg

Well Ricky Perry has launched his "Proud of Texas" campaign tour, and we feel it's time to carve out the competition he faces. Perryheads say that Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn is his most potent rival. You may recall that she surprised folks recently by declaring that she is running as an independent. We're somewhat concerned that she misspelled her name on the candidate form, but we're pretty sure Ricky can't spell her name either. Besides, spelling is totally ovrratid.

What the Perryheads seem to forget is that Kinky Friedman owns their face. Being a former musician we know that he will stay up all night in order to get the job done, coming up with forward-thinking ideas like the following: Recently, on the BBC he said that as governor he would add Willie Nelson to his team. This of course speaks for itself. And we hope whichever Democrat eventually prevails will take at least this one Kinky idea to heart.

The real hope and challenge, of course, will come from the Democratic Party. The Democrats have two excellent candidates in Texas Supreme Court Justice Bob Gammage and former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell vying for their party's nomination.

So there you have it Austin. We will do our best to keep you informed and awake. In the meantime, keep up with all of your political news from some of our many friends who are in the know.

Charles Kuffner's blog Off the Kuff is also a good resource for Texas politics, although it has a Houston bent, since that's his home base.
