KOOP Studios and Sweatbox Records Building Catches Fire

Late last night a fire broke out in the San Jacinto building located near San Jacinto and Trinity. The most damage was apparently suffered by KOOP Studios and Sweatbox Records. Firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames, and three of the fighters suffered smoke inhalation. We are sad to see the home to some great community radio and the recording space of so many local bands take such a blow. Reports are the fire broke out from "improperly discarded smoking materials," which does really not surprise us at all considering the decrepit state of the building and the fact that the place smelled like a Grateful Dead concert when we were in it last week.
We will give you more information on the extent of the damages and any potential fundraising efforts for restoration as they become available to us. You can watch video of the aftermath here.

More upsetting is that a dog apparently didn't make it out. I own no dogs myself, but this disturbs me immensely. If anyone has heard that the pooch actually survived, that the initial reports were premature (a la Sago mines) let a brutha know.
It would make my Friday much, much better.
sure is nice to hear KVRX during the day. They are doing a fine job.
