We're Praying For a Lonestar Rollergirl-Real World Challenge

We still don’t understand why roller derby has yet to become a high school sport, but hopefully a reality TV show courtesy of the masterminds behind Laguna Beach will change all that. Rollergirls premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on A&E. And if you are truly bohemian (or utterly broke) and don’t have cable (or a television), you can head over to the Lake Creek Alamo Drafthouse for the free viewing party, also at 9 p.m.

Under normal circumstances we would hesitate to recommend any realistic television programming because it is a.) stupid and b.) results in the deification of spoiled brats. It is also c.) incredibly stupid. Fortunately the women of TXRD like to eat spoiled brats for a pre-match snack.

The best part about Rollergirls, besides the blood and incredible outfits, is that once you are addicted you can fulfill your cravings with some live action. The 2006 season kicks off with the Cherry Bombs vs. Hellcats on Jan. 15 and the Putas Del Fuego vs. Holy Rollers on Jan. 29. Or, if you’re really lucky, you might glimpse a few of the girls skating around the Whole Foods parking lot. They truly are sadistic poetry in motion.
