A Long Walk Down a Dark Fairway

Luminarias at the Hancock Golf Course, Dec. 10

Austinist was lucky enough to forget our keys at the basketball court that adjoins the Hancock Golf Course, located at the corner of Red River and 42nd. A reconnaissance trip that night landed us at a lesser known trail of lights, and we were doubly lucky because our camera was in the trunk (although we had to make do as well as we could without a tripod).

Unfortunately, a call this week to the Hancock Recreation Center revealed that the luminarias are only lit up one weekend each holiday season. That's a shame, because the trail, which encircles the entire golf course, offered about a mile of lightly-trafficked paths with luminarias stretching over pitch-black terrain. A little holiday treat without having to take a shuttle bus. Next year we'll keep make sure to pay atention and give everyone some advance notice. Two more pics below the jump.
