  • "I'm on the pavement thinking about the government,The man in the trench coat, badge out, laid off, says he's got a bad cough wants to get paid off." Austin City Council tries to clean up downtown’s image by dealing with solicitors and the homeless. Soliciting during daytime? OK. Panhandling at night? That's a no-no. Couldn’t they get those Jesus-freaks off 6th and Congress? Everytime we look at them we think of that creepy old dude from Poltergeist II - “Hi, children.”
  • The Statesman has a new website. Check it.
  • Binge drinking is killing college students. A UT student was found dead in a home being used by a fraternity. Very sad.
  • The kids stay in the picture. The couple who have owned the Zilker canoe rental for the past 36 years get to keep their business even though two other groups outbid them. Big ups to the city council for giving some credence to the couple’s dedication and history with the rental. Respeck.
  • Big Brother is watching. No shit.
  • A new Democrat, former Texas Supreme Court Justice Bob Gammage, has thrown his hat into the governor's race. And he's trash-talking Rick Perry already. To wit: "We don't need a state government run from yachts," Gammage said. "I will make policy in the state Capitol." Ah, snap! Give em hell, Bobby.
  • LCRA is asking folks to watch their water consumption. Cause it could get really ugly next summer.

it is ugly, indeed. the houston chronicle www.chron.com recently redid their's too, and it blows. odd that newspapers are all changing their look to try and keep up with the cyber-jones' and all fail miserably

  • Print one of these out and keep it handy when you're walking downtown: http://www.samkass.com/SYWTHMAP.pdf

  • The Statesman redesign isn't very good! It has some nice, more modern features, but its pretty ugly. Weird.
