Music From The O.C. Mix 5 - Soundtrack (Warner Bros)
Fox’s The O.C. might only be in its third season, but they’ve somehow already released five accompanying soundtracks. Their latest, aptly titled Music From The O.C. Mix 5, is thus far the best in their ever-expanding collection of indie-rock showcases: they’ve assembled an impressive international coterie that features some of the year’s most buzzed-about acts, including European imports like Shout Out Louds, Kasabian, and Kaiser Chiefs and Canada's Stars – many who, not coincidentally, broke into the US market after spectacular performances at this year’s SXSW. One of the best tracks is “California 2005,” Phantom Planet’s touching remix of the show’s theme song. A somnolent, drawn-out version of the original, its exaggerated cadence just oozes that sun-drenched Newport Beach excess that reminds us why the show is so darn irresistible. Oh, just admit it already: you secretly wanna celebrate Christmukkah, too.
