Oh yeah, i didn't go to that one. I was referring to the PGMG/Burma/Preston School of Industry showcase at La Zona Rosa in 2004, which I walked right into right before Preston School went on. I also easily walked into The Parish this year for the Rosebuds / M. Ward / Spoon... Pretty much anything that isn't THE biggest show of the night has been a snap for me if I'm willing to stick the night out there.

I think this year might be worth a wristband for me, there are already enough bands I like that I can tell I'll want to jump around.

That PGMG show @ Parish had a line down the street all night because of Stephen Malkmus playing before PGMG. The venue emptied out the second Malkmus finished though. It was pretty amazing.

That was probably the only time at SXSW that I've ever stood on line with a wristband for more than 10 minutes. I waited for about half of Dead Meadows set to get in and then suffered through Laura Cantrell to see Malkmus.

I agree on the day shows and everything said about, except that I actually have had pretty good luck in the past getting into shows without a wristband. I've never waited in a long line during SXSW -- I think as long as yr willing to stick to one show per night and pay the exorbitant covers, and as long as you're not seeing the one or two very-biggest shows of any given night, you're probably okay. I would guess that you'll be fine if all you want to see is Of Montreal, just get there around the time the doors open at that venue that night. I walked right into Pretty Girls Make Graves and Mission of Burma last year with no problem whatsoever.

  • i got into of montreal's show this past sxsw by just paying 10 bucks at the door........you might have to commit to one venue for the entire night and get there during one of the opening bands, but as long as its not a huge show or at Emo's, i have had a pretty easy time getting into a lot of shows. (and yes, the day shows, for sure, totally, yahhh braah)

I just noticed Tom Verlaine is on the bill.

Please bring Richard Lloyd with you. Please.

    Carol is dead-on.

If you can get off of work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday -- you'll be able to see almost every band you want to see.

The day shows on Wednesday inevitably suck with the exception of a few places like Emos that can get the better bands.

showlistaustin.com has done a great job over the past 2 years collating all the day time show info.

Free Day shows is KEY! I'm never spending money on a wristband again. All the day shows were awesome last year and I paid for a few individual night shows and the cover was only like $10 at most. Waiting in lines with your lowly wristband sucks.

  • akk

it's really hard to get into the bigger, more popular shows without a badge or wristband. you'll end up devoting the whole night to standing in line for one show.

  • I hope I can get in to see Of Montreal. How difficult is it to get into a show if you don't have a badge or a pass?

  • allen

agreed, the lineup is pretty damn impressive already. we were at she wants revenge the other night as well, and they kicked some ass!

  • Penguin

Arctic Monkeys, I can't stress enough how excited I am for that...

  • Declan McManus

Bitchin' initial lineup of Austin and Texas based musicians!

  • David

I saw She Wants Revenge at Stubbs the other night and they said they are booked for sxsw as well.

Great band and cd as well.....
