DeLay Delayed

Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle wants a halt in the trial of U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay as he intends to appeal the dismissal of conspiracy charges that accuse DeLay of conspiring to violate a law barring the use of corporate money in a political campaign. Any postponement would prevent DeLay from regaining his position as U.S. House Majority Lleader, which he can’t resume while under indictment. DeLay Lawyer Dick DeGuerin has said that Earle’s move to appeal is merely designed to postpone the proceedings.
It is worth adding that DeLay still must face the charges that he laundered corporate money and conspired to lauder money into political donations during the 2002 elections.
The defense team is still attempting to have the charges separated in order to get an early trial in January regarding the money laundering charges. Senior District Judge Pat Priest will address the separation proposal during the week of Dec. 27. The appeal of the conspiracy charges is expected to be filed in the next couple of days with no timetable as far as resolution.
Yes it continues to be a merry season for Mr. DeLay.
