Austin Business Journal reports that AMD today filed its official site plans for their new Southwest Austin corporate campus, dubbed "AMD Lone Star." The gargantuan 870,000 sq ft, $230 million complex will see the relocation of over 2,000 employees sometime in 2007. Located at the intersection of Southwest Parkway and William Cannon, the facilities will boast "four office buildings, three parking garages and the Lone Star Commons Building, which will include an employee cafeteria, fitness center and conference space."
Addressing claims by aquifer-protection organization Save Our Springs Alliance that the new campus will essentially destroy Barton Springs as we know it, ABJ had this to say:
That location, in an environmentally sensitive part of Austin, has upset local environmental groups such as the Save Our Springs Alliance.AMD says it created the site plan in collaboration with environmental experts and will incorporate the latest green building techniques and materials. Once complete, the new campus is expected to receive "gold" certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which will make it one of the largest commercial development projects in the country to achieve such a designation.
We're still waiting for a response from SOS.

It doesn't really matter how much "green" building AMD does on this site... There's no way to get around the fact that moving 2,000-3,000 employees to a sensitive area is a bad thing to do. With all the money they're spending on trying to make this site acceptable, they could have planned a cool campus in the heart of downtown, like Silicon Labs is doing.
I have simply lost all respect for AMD.
Like almost all corporate moves, this one is being done because it will make the commute shorter for the boss (and no, it won't really make the commute shorter for AMD employees; most of whom live north of the river anyways).
In this case, the boss' home is off Barton Creek Blvd. over in the country club. Big surprise.
