Weekend Art Attack!
Some notable weekend art openings from around the town...
Friday, December 9th
D Berman Gallery ( 1701 Guadalupe St) presents Sydney Yeager: Billow and Fold. From D Berman's website:
With a new palette of vivid hues, Ms. Yeager’s paintings continue to evolve and delight. In these paintings, forms familiar from the artist’s earlier work are chopped, compressed, and stretched. Implied boundary lines coax plumes of bright colors to bend, loop, and ultimately fill the picture plane with undulations. This latest body of work promises to fully engage the viewer in a lively dialog. Ms. Yeager teaches at the Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria and at Austin Community College, and has exhibited widely throughout Texas. She lives in Austin and works in Elgin.
The exhibit runs through January 21st, 2006.
Shady Lane Studios (702 Shady Lane) is holding the opening reception for PumpedXmess from 6pm-10pm. From their website:
Does your infant son need a tattoo gun made from a guitar string and a cassette motor? Does your daughter just LOVE Zombie Barbie? Then the PumpedXmess show can cater for all your sick Xmas needs!!PumpedXmessis a playful and provocative Xmas show which aims to illuminate and poke some fun at the commodification of Christmas and the small works shows of the Austin art scene during the festive season. We aim to encapsulate the stress and strains of the splenda-coated festive season in a loud and irrational manner. This is projected to become an annual event with the focus firmly on having some art-related, freaky festive fun.
The gallery will also be open 11am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Free admission, donations encouraged. Toys for Tots donation box.
